What’s your favorite way to start a new semester?! I’ve adapted @torigorosave’s #top9of2019 the last couple of years for the first day back from winter break. It’s a great way to get kids reflecting and thinking about the year prior, and it’s a fun way to build community! This year my kids wanted to see everyone’s responses, so I let them keep all the sticky notes up throughout the day. I added a 9th category to make it 9 categories instead of 8 (most looking forward to in 2020), but here were the results!

Sports moment: Patriots losing to the Dolphins, which sealed their Wildcard loss in the future 🤣

Looking forward: graduation & college
I love getting to know my kids with activities like this! And our circle questions today were highlights of break, goal or resolution for 2020, and would you rather swim in a pool of chocolate syrup or melted marshmallows? 🤣 So fun!

I went from no account to 5! 🤣 I often need breaks from social media, but I miss seeing specific content. This is mainly for my mental health (and so I can still see book, bujo, and outfit posts) when I need a break from my job and/or people in general! 😉 Follow any that seem interesting to you if you want. Every angle of my classroom heading into break. I even had time to make all of my copies for the first day back for Gatsby (thanks @writeonwithmissg for the inspirational e-mail earlier this week!), Clorox wipe every surface, and steam clean the couch. I took the last month off social media, and let’s just say I have had a lot more time to get things done. I’m definitely not back for good, but I think I can try some mindful social media use during breaks to evaluate my emotional state being back on. Are you the teacher who gets everything done before a break or are you already too burned out?! This is year 9 of teaching high school for me, and this is the first year I’ve done this much before a break. It definitely feels good!

Ready?! Fall BREAK!
Aka I’ll be grading and planning from home the next few days before my little excursion!
Also, I should probably sleep sometime. All of my coworkers have asked me if I’m okay this week 🤣 I usually am on top of everything and have my life pretty put together. It’s slowly been unraveling the last 10 weeks as I adjust to teaching all college-level courses that are quite large and rather writing/grading intensive while planning for two brand new preps, teaching an overage (which I would happily do every semester of my life!), being on my school’s instructional leadership team, being a member of my district’s professional development and leadership team, sponsoring my school’s chapter of NEHS and our student book club, being in 8 book clubs, doing all of the reading for my AP Lit class, participating in the world’s best female empowerment and support group around: @goshinegirl, and managing college essay and letter of rec season. Did I mention I also am a driving instructor and tutor a college student in writing during all of my free time while also being super introverted?! 🤯😴 I love what I do, but I would not make it one more week without losing my mind. Actually, I already lost it! LOL
I’ll just believe the claim that a messy desk is a sign of genius. @kmelchior2017 does this stress you out?! 🤣 Also, today was really good: I left my house, got to school, realized I left the timed writes for the peer grading activity at home, turned around, sat in traffic, got home, grabbed the bag I set out last night, left my house, drove back to work, and then realized I didn’t have my ID badge or my key card to get inside. Don’t worry, though, my badge was in the timed writes’ place on the kitchen island! Two more days until Fall break. I might make it? 🤣🤦♀️🤷♀️ Just embrace the chaos.
